Swelling query

If I undergo rhinoplasty (with a silicone nose implant) and reduction of the wings of my nose, would I still have obvious swelling and bruising after a week? How long does it normally take to recover from such a procedure and to observe the end result?
M.S.W.

Dear M.S.W.,
Yes, you will still be swollen a week after your procedure, especially if the wings of the nose have been reduced at the same time. If the implant is placed on the bone (which is what I like to do), there will definitely be swelling for a longer duration than a week, but the outcome will eventually be more natural looking, because the implant over the bone is less likely to move about and affect the surgical outcome negatively. Whenever the tip of the nose is operated upon to make it slimmer, swelling can easily take up to three months to look decent and subside.
