Lip reduction surgery

Is there such a thing as lip reduction surgery? What does it involve and how do I go about finding a doctor who performs the procedure?
M.T.

Dear M.T.,
Lip reduction surgery is done by removing a sliver of tissue from the inside of the lips. The incision is then sutured using dissolving sutures.

The procedure can be done under local anaesthetic or a general anaesthetic. Post-operatively, patients need to be on a liquid and soft diet for at least a week to avoid trauma to the sutured areas. Swelling and bruising can take up to two weeks to subside and the final result can take up to three months to be evident.

lip reduction surgery

Hi there,

Just would like to inquire. Here's the situation:

I met with an accident about 6 months ago. There were sutures on my lips, inside and outside, as when I fell, my tooth bit my lower lips and chipped.
After the sutures removed, I find that there is a new layer of soft tissue over my lips (over the healed cut) and it doesn't seem to subside.

I wonder if its due to improperly done sutures or a natural thing that occurs. And if any surgery could be done to remove this tissue? Will I be able to recover my lips to the way it was before everything happened?
I can provide photos if I can have your email address.

Thank you in advance!
