Doubts about breast augmentation

I am thinking of having breast augmentation. However I have some doubts.

  1. Can a person who is anaemic and on hypertension drugs undergo breast augmentation?
  2. Can a patient go for an X-ray if required?

V.S.

Dear V.S.,
To answer your first question, pre-existing medical conditions are obviously an important consideration before embarking on any surgical procedure. A good plastic surgeon will advise you accordingly if your medical condition precludes you from surgery such as breast augmentation.

Having explained that, a lady with controlled hypertension would be just as suitable as any other person to undergo a straightforward procedure such as an augmentation. If you are anaemic, although the blood loss from the surgery is quite small, it would be better to treat the anaemia first, then proceed with surgery.

For your second question, yes, you can still have an X-ray. But you must inform the radiographer that you have breast implants and they will make the necessary adjustments to complete the radiological procedure. We do use mammograms to rule out any tumours for suspicious lesions or to determine if an implant has ruptured.
