British Dental Care Most Expensive in Europe

May cause Brits to seek cheaper healthcare abroad

A report revealed that dental treatment in England is the most expensive in Europe –getting a filling can cost up to 19 times more than in other EU countries. The procedure costs £117 (about RM745) on average compared to £6 (about RM38) in Hungary, the cheapest European country.

The Dutch study, the first to compare the cost of dental work across Europe, found significant differences across nine EU countries in the price of a standard filling.

To undergo the procedure it would cost £117 in England, the most expensive, and followed by Italy on £101 (about RM643) and Spain on £94 (about RM598). In Germany it would cost £50 (about RM318) and in France it would be £34 (about RM216). Eastern European countries such as Poland and Hungary were the cheapest.

The example used by researchers was the price for filling in a molar for a 12-year-old girl. It included the cost of X-rays, materials, drugs, overheads and the dentist’s time.
